Chris Trencher Wins the 2026 Boston Open
The 2026 Boston Open Backgammon Tournament wrapped up on November 1 in Natick, Massachusetts. The five-day event, which began on October 28, was part of the American Backgammon Tour (ABT), and the U.S. Backgammon Federation published the full results the next day.
Open Championship
The ABT Open Championship drew 76 players. Chris Trencher of New York took the title. Albert Steg of Massachusetts finished second, and Tony Wuersch, also from Massachusetts, came third. Steg had a strong week overall: he also won the Masters side event.
Results in the other flights
- ABT Advanced (28 players): John Corporon (CT) won, Dina Laks (NY) was runner-up.
- ABT Intermediate (34 players): Geoff Stern (NJ) won, ahead of Jeremy Comer (NY).
- ABT Novice (7 players): won by Jeffrey Cohen (MA).
- Lee Genud Cup (24 players), the Women's World of Backgammon event: won by Karen Janowsky (NY), with April Mesich (MN) second.
- Doubles (48 teams): won by Matt Reklaitis and Alex Zamanian of Massachusetts.
- Seniors (32 players): won by Claude Landry of Canada.
The program also featured speedgammon, a Players Cup event and a free one-point event for new players, which drew 64 entrants. Short one-point matches are a simple way to try a live tournament: every game decides the match, so there is no doubling cube to worry about. To learn how the cube and match scoring work, see our backgammon rules.
